WATERCOLOR
This watercolor class is for beginners and intermediate levels.  We will cover the basic supplies needed, how to paint washes, mix colors, make corrections, and special effects.  Students will leave with 3-4 paintings and much more knowledge about the watercolor process.  Students will be required to purchase their own supplies.  

Water Color Supply List




  • Water color paper- Size 11”x14” pr 9”x12” cold press, 140lb pad (not block)


  • Paper- For sketching or water swatches- small, white drawing paper or pad is ok (Size approx.. 5x8 or 8x10?


  • Brushes- Watercolor, soft, springy, synthetic is ok. Natural sable is the best. Start with at least a round #12, a round #8, a round #4 and a flat edged ½” and 1”. A mop brush is also useful for putting down lots of water fast and a fine long script brush for fine lines.


  • Paints- Buy good student or professional grade tubes of paint


  • Colors- Cadmium yellow med, lemon yellow, alizarin crimson, cad. Red med, magenta, ultramarine blue, phthalocyanine blue, black, yellow ochre, burnt sienna brown, sap green. You can buy a prepackaged set then supplement the colors not included with single tubes, or just buy all these listed as single tubes. You really don’t need white but some sets include it.


  • Palette - Made for watercolor with edges. Should be white and large. A few white, plastic plates also work. No flat paper palettes used for acrylic or oil.


  • Also need: - Large empty 2 cup plastic cup for water, pediatric eyedropper, paper towels, artist or masking tape, natural sea sponges(small), misting spray bottle, basic compass, regular pencil, eraser, ruler and (optional( a small travel size hairdryer. Whatever else you usually use.


  • Bag or tacklebox - For carrying everything and a weatherproof flat portfolio or at least a large plastic bag for covering your paper and pads in case of bad weather. Goodwill or other used discount outlets usually have a selection of used bags.
